Zen Du

Born and raised in Russia, I moved to America at the age of twenty and encountered a blend of different cultures in one country. Interaction with people of different ages and diverse cultural backgrounds reformed my perception about the human being. I have come to the awareness that regardless of the culture, age, and surroundings the human being exists as a replica of a physical body on the energy level - the spiritual world that unify people with each other, with nature, and energies of different origins that does not have a repetition in the material world.

As an artist I realize that different color has a different energy charge that influence people by transmitting different emotional experience. Therefore, color and the painterly style became the perfect way for me to express the astral imprint which is hidden behind visual experience. Besides color, there is the use of symbolism as a way of communication as well. Symbolism fills our world as an image or a language and conveys essence of the meaning. I employ the symbolism of the image and the energy of the color to express my personal experience and the experience of people well known to me.

The main subject of my work is the figure as a symbol of the material world. The background usually blends with the figure and is more abstract which defines the paths of energies interacting with the figure and with the combination of a specific color palette defines specific emotional state. The power of an abstract and the power of the symbolism merge in my work which opens up broader views for interpretation.
